A Neighborhood Built on Tradition
New Haven is known for many things, whether it's the energy of downtown or the quiet waterfront neighborhoods of the south side, there's always something for everyone.
Nestled along the Long Island Sound is Morris Cove, a neighborhood filled with history, beautiful views, and a tradition of bringing people together that dates back nearly 400 years.
Originally settled by English colonists in 1638, the land that would become Morris Cove was purchased from the Quinnipiac tribe by Thomas Morris, who established his family's homestead along the shoreline. What began as a quiet farming community slowly grew into one of Connecticut's most beloved waterfront destinations.

The Pardee-Morris House
If you've ever driven down Lighthouse Road on your way to Amarante's, you've probably passed one of Morris Cove's greatest treasures without even realizing it.
The historic Pardee-Morris House, rebuilt in the 1780s after the British raid on New Haven, still stands today serving as a reminder of the neighborhood's incredible story and the generations who helped shape it.

The Trolley Era
As New Haven continued to grow throughout the late 1800s, so did Morris Cove. In 1895, the trolley service was born and it connected locals to Lighthouse Point, creating a quick trip to the shoreline. Families would hop aboard the trolley and spend the day enjoying the ocean breeze, the beaches, local restaurants, and everything else the shoreline had to offer.
People didn't come here just because it was close, they came because there was something special about it. The waterfront. The slower pace. That feeling that for a little while, you could leave the rest of the world behind.
And honestly... not much has changed.
People still make the trip to Morris Cove for many of the very same reasons. They come to watch the sunset over Long Island Sound, celebrate life's biggest milestones, or simply spend an evening by the water.
That same spirit is what Andy Amarante saw when he first discovered this special stretch of shoreline in 1957.
Five years later, he purchased the property with a vision of creating a place where people could gather, celebrate, and make memories that would last a lifetime.
More than sixty years later, that vision is still alive.
