Our History
Amarante’s Sea Cliff has been part of Connecticut’s shoreline story for over a century.
Long before it became the beloved waterfront destination it is today, Sea Cliff was already a place where people gathered to celebrate. In the Roaring ’20s, guests arrived by trolley and even personal limousine, drawn to the beauty of the shoreline, lively music, and unforgettable evenings, including a speakeasy tucked inside The Inn.
A NEW LEGACY BEGINS
In 1962, Andy “Sonny” Amarante purchased Sea Cliff and transformed it into something extraordinary.
After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Sonny attended the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, graduating in 1948 before building his career in the restaurant industry. His passion for hospitality, exceptional cuisine, and unforgettable guest experiences became the foundation of Amarante’s Sea Cliff.
With Sonny’s vision, Sea Cliff became known for elegant waterfront dining, remarkable celebrations, and a level of hospitality that kept guests coming back generation after generation.
A CONNECTICUT ORIGINAL
In the 1980s, Sonny expanded that legacy even further by creating and producing Connecticut’s first dinner theater, welcoming tens of thousands of guests for evenings filled with entertainment, dining, and celebration.
Through every era, Amarante’s Sea Cliff has remained a destination where memories are made.
